How to Make the Most of the Outdoors at Your Wedding

We are often approached by couples asking the question “How do we Make the most of the Outdoors for Our Wedding?” We are here to help at Talhenbont. It won’t be long before we are uttering the phrase “Great British Summertime.” We all know that living here in the UK, we have to be ready for any weather as any time of year. You can enjoy a fantastic 20-degree spring day in March and a chilly, wet day in August. One thing we have learnt is that there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing!

We are brilliant in this country at making the most of the outdoors, whatever the weather. We don’t ever have the certainty of 28 degree set fair months even in mid-summer. We tend to enjoy a BBQ at anything over 10 degree and will happily dine al fresco with a blanket over our knees to keep the chill off. We like to ensure that we expose ourselves to every second of sunshine possible.

There is an obvious trend in the wedding industry for a peak around the summer with bookings and there are a great many reasons why people pick the summer months to get married. There is a greater chance of gorgeous weather and at Talhenbont, the grounds lend themselves to enjoying your wedding party outside for part of your day making the most of the surroundings. Here at Talhenbont, the grounds are stunning throughout the year, however, if it is a drinks party on the terrace, croquet on the lawn and champagne under the stars, you may be better looking at the months of May to late September to be in the greatest chance of this happening.

We have a few ways of making the most of the outdoors on your wedding day at Talhenbont. We are an exclusive use wedding venue based in North Wales, just 2 miles from the sea.

We are just a couple of miles from Criccieth and Abersoch and make an ideal ‘Destination Wedding’ venue as you and your guests get to enjoy the Estate exclusively for the whole weekend.

We work very hard and are extremely proud of the beautiful grounds that make for some truly stunning photos. Our manicured gardens and the ancient woodland that surrounds the hall have been carefully planted to offer colour throughout the year. They are a botanical dream. With everything from bluebell woods and watery glades through to ornamental shrubbery and exotic plants, you are in good company when it comes to nature and landscape.

After your ceremony, when you’re having your photographs it’s likely the first bit of ‘alone time’ you get after saying “I do” so being out in beautiful surroundings in fabulous weather, it couldn’t get better than at Talhenbont Hall.

We have developed a series of terraces and bridges down by the river to enjoy this unique flora and fauna. The sounds of the River Dwyfach cascading through the woods as you take your vows is something that sets the outdoor terrace at Talhenbont Hall apart from other venues. We can accommodate a huge number of guests on the terrace, if you are looking at inviting bigger numbers, and every guest has an elevated view of the pergoda and grounds leading down to the river. We have even created accessible levels for those who are less able and made need to be escorted down in one of our mobility buggies. We are the perfect location for an outdoor wedding.

We all love garden games in summer and having garden games on your wedding day is the perfect opportunity to get truly inventive. We have our brilliant chess board on the lawn to keep guests entertained and what could be more British than a game of croquet whilst you enjoy your glass of fizz? Or even a tug of war between the two joining families? Garden games work perfectly if you have an early ceremony and there are lots of daylight hours for you and your guests to enjoy. There are many companies that hire out props, or you could even get creative and make your own games. Chat to us about ideas and what we have seen enjoyed at previous weddings. We are always happy to help.

After enjoying your wedding breakfast in the Coach House, our brilliant caterers Cheeky Chilli are very flexible and offer a range of al fresco evening options. At a wedding in 2019 they served delicious Thai Street Food on the terrace to the evening guests. It’s a great way of allowing guests to mingle outside on a summer evening and makes the Coach House a space for the party to go on long in to the night.

We also allow fireworks in our grounds, the perfect ending to your wedding celebrations and something your guests will remember. If you are looking for the perfect Welsh outdoor wedding based close to the sea, then look no further!

We are open to your own suggestions at Talhenbont and make it out mission to try to accommodate all that one of our couples wants in terms of the outdoor space. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have some ideas that you’d like to run by us. As a small family business we aim to offer a bespoke and personal touch to your wedding celebrations. We regularly update our galleries of weddings in the grounds.
