Engagement season is called this for a reason. Forty percent of couples will pop the questions between the months of December and February each year. It comes as no surprise that Valentines day is one of the most popular days to get engaged, alongside Christmas and New Year. On the day of romance and love, there is no better addition to the roses and chocolates than an engagement ring! It is a day for the true romantics amongst us. If you are one of the lucky ones who is asked or agrees to the question “will you marry me?” The question is what happens next?
Everything is a bit of a blur as you contemplate the magnitude of agreeing to spend your life with one person and so sit back, take it all in and really enjoy the fact that you have just got engaged.
Whilst you will be bursting to tell the world and share it on social media, we would advise that you tell your nearest and dearest first and ideally in person. It means so much to those who love you to hear it first-hand rather than via a Facebook update! We would advise holding off “going viral” with your announcement for a few days. Enjoy it as a couple and with those closest to you before the barrage of questions begin once everyone finds out.
You will no doubt receive lots of phones calls, cards, flowers, glasses of fizz and requests to see your new “sparkler.” Once this busy time has slowed, take some time out as a couple to enjoy a dinner or even a weekend away. You can begin to make some tentative plans as to when and where you might like to celebrate your big day. You are able to make the most important decisions and the basis of the wedding plans as a couple without any interference from family members or well meaning friends.
There are a few practical tips regarding your new ring. Look in to having it re-sized and insure it with a quick phone call to your home and contents insurance provider. Your local jewellers would be able to resize any ring quickly and easily if needs be. We’d also recommend beginning to take care of your hands from this point on! Start with the treat of a manicure. In the run up to the wedding, your ring will probably be the star of the show, so make the most of it.
